The Gainesville Regional is served daily by the Regional Transit Services and university students, staff and faculty can ride the regional transit services fare-free when they present their Gator 1 card. RTS usually offers multiple bus routes on campus and also serve every area of the University, including routes to all points of Gainesville. Various taxicab companies are also available at the airport and include Blue Nile Taxi, Taxi Cab, Gainesville Cab, Independent Taxi Service and Kennedy Cab Co.

The university also has a Carpool Program which encourages eligible University faculty and staff members to share the ride to and from the university. The carpool groups usually consist of two registered members.

About the University of Florida
The University of Florida has more than nine hundred buildings, one hundred seventy of these have classrooms and laboratories. The university is on a two thousand acre campus. The National Register of Historic Places has listed the northeast corner of campus as a Historic District. The residence halls have a total capacity of seven thousand five hundred students with five family housing villages which house more than one thousand graduate and married students.

Annually, the university has a student enrollment of nearly fifty thousand students. The university is also home to sixteen colleges and more than one hundred fifty institutes and research centers. The faculty at the university consist of more than four thousand faculty members who have distinguished records in research, teaching and service. The Gainesville Area
Florida state’s natural history museum which is one of the nation’s fastest and largest growing museum is located at the University campus. This museum has millions of artifacts and specimens. The museum researchers excavate shell mounds on Southwest of the Florida coast, they also investigate the extinctions of birds on the Pacific islands, document worldwide shark attacks and monitor threatened and endangered species like the manatee or the Florida panther.

The Harn Museum of Art is also situated at the University of Florida and it contains more than nine thousand collections that focus on Asian, African, contemporary and modern art. Ten miles south of Gainsville is Florida’s first state preserve the Paynes Prairie which grants opportunities for recreation. The preserve features numerous varieties of terrain from the hardwood hammocks to pine flat woods. Visitors will frequently encounter alligators, wild horses, bison and many other species. There are eight miles of trails which accommodate hikers, bikers as well as riders.

The Hippodrome State Theatre is Gainesville’s cultural magnet. It brings a wide selection of arts opportunities to the city. It is a professional theater which has grown into one of Florida’s well respected venues for developing and staging American and Southern works.
