About South Shore There is also some wonderful shopping excursion, culinary delights and family oriented activities. If you are looking for affordable lakefront living then South Shore is the neighborhood for you. New condos come with many luxuries like granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, and hardwood floors. There are great choices of single family homes also with front lawns and backyards. On South Shore Drive high-rises line the streets and breathtaking views of the water can be seen as well as the city skyline. The hardest choice the residents of South Shore have to make is whether to go to Rainbow Beach or the beach at the South Shore Cultural Center. The South Shore Cultural Center was once home to an elite county club but is now public. The grounds include a 9 whole golf course, walking trails, a bird sanctuary, and fitness activities for children and adults. Rainbow Beach allows Chicagoans to soak up the sun and ride the surf, there are walking and jogging trails, fitness classes, tennis courts and exercise facilities. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) operates an outstanding public transportation system. There are a couple of buses that will travel into downtown and the Metra Electric Line will travel to the other Chicago suburbs. It is pretty easy to get around by foot around the South Shore neighborhood. If you can’t live without your car be prepared to use the Chicago Skyway. South Shore really starts to sizzle during the summer. All kinds of outdoor events start to take place. Some of the annual events include the Real Men Cook father’s day celebration Monday Movie Nights at the South Shore Cultural Center and Rainbow Beach, and Concerts in the Park also at the beaches. |
