Ketchikan Airport Shuttle Service
If you prefer to get to the adventures quicker, the Ketchikan International Airport is there for you. The best bet is to leave and return from Seattle but a few other north western cities have flights to the airport.

Transportation to and from the airport is done on a ferry – period. The good news is that you won’t have to slog through the water to get to the ferry. Ketchikan has an excellent public transportation system, including an airport shuttle to the ferries.

For many people, the call of the great outdoors is practically irresistible while for others, the thought of sleeping in a tent, cooking dinner over a campfire or washing their face in a 40 degree river is more like torture than a weekend getaway.

About the Port of Ketchikan

If given a choice, many hardcore outdoors men and women would love to spend some time in Alaska, while those who prefer spending time in the lap of luxury are better suited to life on a cruise ship. If only there was a way to bring the two interests together, wait a sec – what about an Alaskan cruise, why didn’t anyone think of this before?

Ketchikan Cruise Port Information
When taking a cruise through the inner passage (or marine highway) Ketchikan, Alaska will be the first stop. The cruise ship port in Ketchikan is unique in that the ships actually dock in downtown Ketchikan, just a short walk from many of the city’s main attractions. Like many other communities along the inner passage, the only way into or out of Ketchikan are by air or water as car travel to and from the city isn’t possible.

Things to do in Ketchikan
Ketchikan, Alaska is exactly what you would expect an Alaskan waterfront village to look like. The town is the 4th biggest settlement in the state and once had thriving timber, mining and salmon fishing industries. The salmon still run but the mining and timber operations have all but disappeared. Today, the primary industry in Ketchikan is tourism, and they do it well. Souvenir shopping, scenic views, delicious food and local art, including the world’s largest totem pole collection, are plentiful in this rustic Alaskan village. The weather is milder than you may expect and wet, very wet. Ketchikan averages over 160 inches of rain every year, but the rain won’t spoil a good time.

Ketchikan is often referred to as the salmon capitol of the world and avid fishermen will want to check it out at least once. Misty Fjords National Monument is close by and also offers unbelievable scenic views. For the outdoorsmen and women, the hiking, kayaking, and fishing are out of this world and that’s just the beginning of the outdoor fun. You can go off-roading, ride a zip-line (very nice!), take a seaplane tour or just about anything else you want to do.
