The Patio theater has also been around since the 1920's and it has been said that this theater brings class back to the movie going experience.

About Portage Park The area is known for its six Corners outdoor shopping district more recently it has been recognized for the civic projects that are updating this neighborhoods image. This peaceful and spacious neighborhood offers good schools and some affordable properties as well as steady growth potential. Portage Park gets its name from the fact that is was a portage for Native Americans to carry their canoes from the Des Plaines River to the Chicago River. The Treaty of St Louis in gave the United States Control of the area between the Chicago River and the Mississippi River. In 1850, E.B. Sutherland built a Dickinson Tavern on what is known today as Milwaukee Avenue. The main commercial hotspot in Portage Park is the Six Corners intersection located at the intersection of Irving Park Road, Cicero Avenue, and Milwaukee Avenue. The Art deco Sears and Klee Buildings are great examples of prominent architecture. Portage Park has many single family home options from quaint brick bungalows to Victorian, Georgian and English Tudor styled homes. Some of these homes have finished attics. Other types of housing include condos with beatifically manicured landscaping, and contemporary town-homes that offer the upscale amenities you would expect from a downtown residence. The Chicago Transportation Authority (CTA) operates an easy to use public transportation system through the Portage Park neighborhood. The CTA’s #78 Montrose Avenue heads east the #86 Narragansett Avenue heads south, the #85 Central Avenue heads north , the # 152 Addison Street runs east and west, #56 Milwaukee Avenue runs northwest and southeast route into the West Loop, the #54 Cicero Avenue will take you to the Midway Airport, and the #80 Irving Park will take you to the CTA Blue Line Train Stop. The Blue Line will take you downtown (southeast) or to O’Hare (west). The ride to downtown is usually about a half hour. If you prefer an environmentally friendly option many residents of Portage Park use Milwaukee Avenue as a route to get to downtown by way of bicycle. It is a pleasant and stress-ride. If you are riding for leisure you can find that heading north there are preserved bike trails in nearby neighborhood or riding around Portage Park is also a favorable adventure. |
