About North Park The neighborhood is home to an eclectic mix including he Polish Felican Sisters, the PBS station, and two Universities (Northeastern Illinois University and North Park University). North Park is regarded as a middle income community, but sprinkled throughout this middle class neighborhood is also the opportunity for some wonderful upper class properties. The area is sandwiched between the riverbanks and parkland which creates a quaint solitude that no other neighborhood in Chicago can offer. This placement offers a view of Chicago’s only waterfall which is four feet high and creates the unusual ambiance that the neighborhood is known for. The housing selections are just as diverse with its brick styled bungalows and historic home selections. Condos and town-homes in the area are attractive to students and young couples. Home prices vary in price from $195K to $600K; with some exceptions of 5 or 6 bedroom properties that run in the millions. For the residents that enjoy the outdoors the 48 acre Legion Park is regarded as one of the best places to be. There you can take in the beautiful scenery, play one of your favorite sports on one of its many courts, take a paddle boat ride, or let the kids have fund on all the playground equipment. Think of North Park as an academic community versus one that is a shopping hub. You will find very few service oriented businesses. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) operates the public transportation line; the 84 Peterson runs North Park. The Brown line is also accessible by way of Kimble. The ride from the Brown Line Station is 35 to 60 minutes to the Loop however the Metra Union Pacific North Line will only take you 30 minutes of less with only one stop between North Park and the Loop. Plenty of people also drive; North Park is not one of those bustling cities where you can hail a cab. If you need a cab you will need to call for service. |
