Maywood |
Maywood, California is a small city with a population of around twenty eight thousand, surrounded by the mega metropolis that is Los Angeles. Maywood is a quaint city, giving itself the look of ‘Old Hollywood’: palm trees line the streets like proud soldiers welcoming all into their cities. | |
About Maywood The classic architecture is fascinating to take in. The city hall looks more like an executive film studio’s office from the forties, and yet, this city gets even more salacious. This little community which is only one point fourteen square miles in area has a running storyline that is worthy of becoming a motion picture. In history books, it was noted that this land now had a legal owner, Manuel Nieto, who, in 1781, deeded this land Maywood and turned it into a fully equipped settlement/rancho, right down to having a cow pasture. Now you can visit here and experience history, and when you are ready to leave then depart LAX airport and visit other historic cities, that you can still day dream about the culture and food of these cities. The year was now 1919. The world was progressing and so was the land. Real estate was big business at that time. That included the Manuel Nieto ranch. The estimated twenty three hundred acres was being transformed into tract housing. During that time, there was a young woman working for the real estate company whose name was May Wood. Popular and friendly, she was asked if she would mind if this area of real estate was named after her. Maywood was born. Maywood, although becoming the potential of a small, successful city, had to survive a fiery opposition of becoming incorporated. The ‘yeas’ outweighed the ‘neighs’ and Maywood was officially incorporated in 1924. Maywood is a beautiful city. There are four public elementary schools in the city of Mayfield and one in the nearby city of Bell children can attend. As for public middle schools, in Huntington Park and Bell, Maywood children may attend there, and for Public secondary schools, there is one high school in the city limits and two others nearby to choose from. For others, there are private schools available. Mayfield has four beautiful parks that bring back that fell of old style world charm. The Parks and Recreation Department Center are one of the best in the world, and the Maywood Activities Center is second to none. In addition, we have nine beautiful places to worship whatever race, creed or religion you are. Mayfield enjoys an old-fashioned carnival every year at the same time, during their annual Street Fair on Memorial Day Weekend. |
