Kochi Airport Shuttles With an hour’s drive into the city, a shuttle pick-up can go a long way in making the trip as stress-free as possible. Book with either sedan or taxi companies to leave the moment you land, gaining the added perk of bag-handling services as well as wide windows great for enjoying lush views of the Periyar River. Find the best corner of town for your shuttle to drop off by doing a bit of research ahead of time. For something close to the city but far from it, check out North Paravur, a small town that’s slightly off the coast of the north end, or stay closer to the east side of town in Ernakulam, which is renowned for its bird sanctuary and wide variety of western hotels. For something right on the water, choose between something either in Vypin, an island north of the island-city of Kochi, or downtown Kochi’s many neighborhoods ranging from the busy Thoppumpady region or Edakochi, one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods. Don’t lose track of the most important aspect of your trip by making sure you keep track of your shuttle reservation, either by printing out your confirmation email or jotting down the information yourself. Keep back-up documentation of yourself scanned as well, keeping digital versions of your ID, prescriptions, and passport in case of an emergency. There are also information and tourist desks located in both the domestic and international terminal, ready to help you find ground transportation or schedule a new ride in case you missed your pick-up time. About Cochin International Airport Don’t fret amidst a layover, finding something to fill your time while you wait, whether it’s something to eat or a fun souvenir. If you’re in the international terminal, shop at a variety of fashion stores including Doc & Mark, W, and Ramsons, also considering souvenirs and handicrafts at Lotus House and W H Smith. As far as food, the terminal offers 6 snack kiosks and a Burger King. Those on the domestic side have just as much variety, including stores like the silks of MCR Fabrics and electronics at Xone. Food includes a few snack bars as well as shops that sell cashews and spices. With so many hotels along Airport Road, there’s plenty to do if you’re just hanging out near the airport. The coolest hotspot is the Suvarnodyanam Biological Park, located on the west side of the airport and especially popular with business travelers due to its close access to the CIAL Convention Centre and CIAL Golf Course. See a slice of history afterward by checking out the famous Madassy Mana, a cherished relic located along the Periyar River to the east of the airport, also keeping in mind the astounding Kalady Sivarathri Manappuram building a few miles north along the same stretch. Cochin Destinations For something closer to the modern side, take a walk down Marine Drive, a beachside hangout known for its scenic views of the night skyline as well as pedestrian-only access to a promenade, or get a combination of natural and modern by checking out Willingdon Island, famous for being India’s largest artificial isle. To best experience Cochin’s sunset, visit the lighthouse in Vypin, looking out at the beautiful cluster of islands that turn ethereal at dusk, finally grabbing a bite at the city’s most popular eatery, Farmer’s Cafe, home to a cottage-style ambiance that transports each patron.
