Get a feel for the area by spending time at its most rewarding locations, from the burial site of royal family members at Kasubi Tombs, which has become a world-renowned heritage landmark, to the story of Uganda from start to present told at the Uganda Museum, located on Kira Road and home to village-centric exhibits alongside contemporary art pieces. For a stoic view of the city, choose between various high vistas, moving from Kampala Central Mosque, located on Namirembe Hill and offering glimpses of the skyline at over 4,000 feet above sea level, to the quieter Baha’I House of Worship, which rests on the north side of town.

More architectural stand-outs include the bizarre Basilica of the Uganda Martyrs, which offers a massive steel-framed cone inspired by old tribal huts, Rubaga Cathedral, famous for being the oldest Roman Catholic church in Uganda, and finally Bulange, Uganda’s parliament building known for its heated arguments and British-inspired designs. The city is also home to family-friendly attractions at Wonder World Amusement Park as well as Kids Park at Kavumba Recreation Center, both of which provide just enough time to spend the afternoon there.
