About Humboldt Park The total area is just under 4 square miles, making it one of the largest communities when you arrive from Chicago airport. There’s also more than 50,000 residents. Various events take place within the community, including the Fiestas Puertorriquenas as well as the Riot Fest. Riot Fest had taken place elsewhere in the city and changed to Humboldt Park beginning in 2012. It is an annual festival that brings in more than 160,000 people from all over the country. There are several different historic locations throughout the city and it has been featured in quite a number of movies, including a 1945 film starring Jack Benny. Tourist Attractions in Humboldt Park At the Humboldt Park Murals more than 60 murals can be found throughout this community. At the Fritz Reuter Monument the German novelist has been made into a bronze monument that stands 9 feet tall. The Bison Statues is also a must-see. The bison were originally for the World’s Fair in 1893. In 1911, they were placed at the entrance to the rose garden after being cast in bronze. And of course Humboldt Park. It is one of the three parks in the community and is connected by a number of lagoons, which are all connected to the prairie river. Restaurants in Humboldt Park Coco Restaurant offers a significant amount of Puerto Rican cuisine. Feed is an offbeat restaurant known for its soul food. Roeser’s Bakery dates back to 1911, this is one of the oldest bakeries in the city. Kai Zan is a small Japanese restaurant with an array of sushi on the menu. There is much to see and do within Humboldt Park and now that you know more about the area, vacation planning is made simpler.
