 | The Dome Center is the lively and popular convention center of Henrietta, New York, a charming little city just outside of Rochester. The center is a sprawling fair grounds and expo center which regularly hosts a variety of events including livestock shows, fairs, circuses, conventions, concerts and sporting events. |
About The Dome Center Built in 1972, the Dome Center has over 4,000 indoor seats, with 2,164 being permanent seats. The expo center offers 25,000 sq. ft. of open exhibition space, making it a popular location for trade shows and indoor expos. Minnett Hall is 23,000 sq. ft. and can accommodate up to 3,000 guests for banquets, conventions and galas. The County Fair is regularly hosted at the Dome Center, where visitors pack into the spacious 4,000 seat grandstand to observe horse shows and other outdoor events on the half-mile clay track. The Dome Center has a colorful history for hosting a variety of sporting events, particularly an unusual basketball game in 1979. The Rochester Zeniths were playing in an All Star annual league game when a severe blizzard caused a massive blackout all over western New York. The game was postponed until the following evening, where the CBA commissioner decided they should continue the game from exactly where it left off when the power went out, but also play an added four quarters for the additional fans in attendance that second evening. This ended up being the only game ever in the history of pro basketball to feature 6 complete “quarters”. The Zeniths won, making it one of the most unusual games in the history of professional basketball to date. The Dome currently serves as the home base for the Roc City Roller Derby, continuing its legacy as a fun and lively indoor sports venue today. Henrietta is a pleasant area just outside of Rochester, with plenty of interesting activities. After spending a day at the convention center, get to know the city and take a relaxing stroll in one of the many scenic parks. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the various opportunities for outdoor sports, such as Tinker Nature Park, which offers year round activities such as biking, snowshoeing, skiing and walking along nature trails. The Pieters Family Life Center is a great recreational center with swimming pools, fitness equipment and a gym.
