Around 1928 the Cairns International airport (CNS) began to take shape, at first being used by Tom McDonald, a local business man. Renovation of the airport started in 1982 with the runway being lengthened and then the international terminal was constructed. Having to separate terminals in two different buildings makes it easier for passengers to find their way around the massive airport.
