BZE airport transfers Though there is no official docking area at the Belize Cruise Port, passengers arriving to the region will be tendered to the shore via smaller ships that can carry a few dozen at a time. Once taken to the mainland, a fun dock is host to select restaurants and shops, the main downtown area of Belize City just a mile north. The city’s extensive bus network is unfortunately not close to the port, though private rentals like sedans, vans and chartered buses make for great self-guided tours across the Belize City’s distinct south and north sides. Reserve a meet-and-greet service for the chance to get dropped off at any given point, looking forward to local personal drivers interested in showcasing the region’s delightful 1920s-era architecture, or a taxi driver who understands the lay of the land best for getting from point A to point B fast.
Divided by the central Haulover Creek, the south and north side have only a few access points into the city. Located on the south side, the cruise port offers close access to such landmarks as Port Loyola Park and its towering vistas, the neighboring 19th-century Government House made for being the former governor’s home that now showcases local history through finely curated artifacts. Continue north on Albert Street to reach The Swing Bridge, a famous manually-operated crossing that often makes way for boats passing through, across the way north side landmarks sprinkle the waterfront. Especially close is the Fort Street Tourism Village, the city’s main shopping hub filled with souvenir stores in old fisherman-like spaces, the Baron Bliss Lighthouse located just next door and offering the perfect sunset after a long afternoon. And when it’s time to return to the ship, have dinner somewhere special, a great option being the down-home Central American cuisine at Bernie's. |
